Vice President, Project Management, St. Joseph Health
Melinda Bowles began her career leading large operational teams and process
design/improvement initiatives in the telecommunications and airline industries.
She then served for more than 15 years as an independent consultant in
business development/ marketing/ communications in technology, biomedical,
pharmaceutical, higher education, independent physician practices and
health care, where St. Joseph Health was a primary client. During this
time, Bowles co-founded a company, which included developing a dealer
sales network across the United States and Europe. The co-founders sold
the company five years later and the product continues to be the market leader.
In 2005, Bowles joined St. Joseph Health, and has served in senior leadership
roles in information technology, performance improvement and strategic
services. Her accomplishments include leading efforts to build a denial
resolution unit within 90 days, standardizing the electronic health record
system across 14 hospitals, launching a personalized digital hub, standardizing
the general ledger and charge description master, and improving operational
performance by $88 million through 14 cost-benefit initiatives.
She currently leads the system-wide project management office and performance
improvement team, overseeing the implementation of system-wide strategic
objectives. She is a LEAN black belt and has a certificate in project
management from the University of California, Irvine.
Bowles earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of California,
Irvine and her master’s degree at the University of Southern California.
She is a published fiction writer and award- winning playwright.
