Catholic Health Association Names Sr. Suzanne Sassus 2010 Recipient of Prestigious Sr. Concilia Moran Award
The Catholic Health Association of the United States(CHAUSA) has named Sr. Suzanne Sassus, Senior Vice President of Governance and Sponsorship at St. Joseph Health (SJH), as the 2010 recipient of its prestigious Sister Concilia Moran Award at the annual Catholic Health Assembly yesterday in Denver, Colo.
Sassus was recognized for her work to integrate SJH’ mission and values into the executive leadership at several hospitals as well as her role in multiple leadership initiatives such as developing the SJHS Foundation and the Center for Ministry Leadership.
An SJH veteran for nearly two decades, her leadership was also key in helping steward the system’s transition to a new model of sponsorship with St. Joseph Health Ministry. She was instrumental in establishing the role of Vice President of Sponsorship, so that the executive management team of each SJHS hospital would include a member dedicated to ensuring that SJHS mission and values supported local decisions and policies.
“Trailblazing leaders like Sr. Suzanne demonstrate an understanding of ministry identity rooted in the church and an approach to health care that emphasizes collaboration,” said Sr. Jayne Helmlinger, Executive Vice President of Mission Integration, SJH. “This recognition validates her lifelong efforts to ‘hardwire’ our mission and values throughout every level of the health system, helping us to pursue our strategic goals in meaningful ways.”
Established in 1992, the Sister Concilia Moran Award recognizes individuals in Catholic health care for their creativity and breakthrough thinking that advances the ministry. This award draws critical attention to the innovative ideas and achievements by which these leaders have taken Catholic health care in new directions.
