Orange, CA --- St. Joseph Health System issues the following statement on the passing of the historic health care reform legislation:
“As a Catholic healthcare provider, St. Joseph Health System and our hospitals have always believed that health care provides a foundation for human dignity to flourish and that everyone has the right to basic health care. Our mission is to extend our healing ministry by continually improving the health and quality of life of people in the communities we serve and we are grateful that this historic bill opens the health care door for 32 million Americans previously locked out of a system. We applaud Congress for taking a step toward extending the vision of human dignity through this legislation by expanding coverage especially to low-income and vulnerable populations. We look forward to working to ensure that it fully carries out its moral promise by expanding access for the underserved and maintaining our ability to provide care in the communities in need. Consistent with our Catholic Social Teachings, we will as always, continue to serve everyone who requires our care and compassion—regardless of their ability to pay.”
The St. Joseph Health System (SJHS) is an integrated healthcare delivery system sponsored by the St. Joseph Health Ministry. We provide a full range of care from facilities including 14 acute care hospitals, home health agencies, hospice care, outpatient services, skilled nursing facilities, community clinics, and physician organizations throughout California, Texas and New Mexico. In our award-winning facilities, SJHS maintains a "continuum of care" matched to the diverse needs of the communities we serve.
