Sr. Sharon Becker, CSJ, General Counselor, Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange

Sr. Sharon currently serves as General Counselor, Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange. Her responsibilities include oversight of the Sisters of St. Joseph Healthcare Foundation, the Ministry Board, and the Care for the Poor Committee.

Previously, she was Vice President, Sponsorship for St. Mary Medical Center, Apple Valley, and the Director of the Healthy Beginnings-New Avenues clinics in Apple Valley.

Sr. Sharon also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the S.H.A.R.E. Foundation, a member of the Board of Trustees for St. Joseph Health System-Humboldt County, and as a member of the Federation Council of the Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Sr. Sharon earned her MSN from UC San Francisco and UC San Diego, and a Nurse-Midwifery Certificate from Mater Hospital in Australia.

Sr. Judith Dugan, CSJ, Director, CSJ Educational Network

Sr. Judith has served as the Associate Director of the Catholic Deaf Community, Diocese of Orange, and as the Director of Philosophy and Planning of the CSJ Educational Network. She has been principal of Holy Family Cathedral School, St. Mary School, St. Bernard Elementary School, and Our Lady of Guadalupe School.

She has served as a Board Member for the St. Joseph Health System Foundation, as a member of the Catholic Collaborative of Orange County, and a member of the Board of Trustees for St. Joseph Health System-Humboldt County.

Sr. Judith has a Master’s degree from the University of Portland, and is credentialed teacher in the state of California.

Sr. Martha Ann Fitzpatrick, CSJ, Vice President, Sponsorship, Mission Hospital

Sr. Martha Ann has served as Mission Hospital’s Vice President of Sponsorship since 1994, where she is responsible for the sponsorship, spiritual care and community benefit departments.

Prior to her work at Mission, Sr. Martha Ann served as Vice President, Sponsorship and Director, Philosophy Implementation at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. She has also served on the Executive Council of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, and was an Associate Professor of American History at Loyola Marymount University.

Sr. Martha Ann was a member of the board of trustees for St. Joseph Hospital-Orange, and for Hospitaller Brothers Healthcare in Los Angeles.

Sr. Martha Ann has a MA and Ph.D. in American History from Catholic University of America.


Sr. Katherine Gray, CSJ, General Superior, Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange

Sr. Katherine “Kit” Gray is the Chair of the St. Joseph Health System Board, and General Superior of Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange. She is also a member of the Nominating Committee of the Catholic Health Association and Chair of the CSJ/SJHS Sponsorship Model Process.

Previously, Sr. Kit served as Chancellor, Diocese of Orange and the Vice President for Human Resources, SJHS. She has also served as the Congregation’s Assistant General Superior and the Director of the Department or Religious Education, Diocese of Santa Rosa.

Sr. Kit has also served on boards for St. Mary Medical Center, Apple Valley; Boys Hope/Girls Hope; St. Jude Medical Center; and Loyola Marymount University.

Sr. Kit has a MA in Theology from the University of San Francisco, and has attended post-graduate courses at Weston School of Theology in Cambridge, Mass.


Sr. Kathleen Kelly, CSJ, Assistant Provincial Superior, Los Angeles Province

Sr. Kathleen has served Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles as an administrator, as dean, of the Associate in Arts Program, and as a professor of history and cultural geography. She also served as Vice President of the college’s Doheny Campus.

She has served as chairman or the board of directors for St. Mary’s Academy, Academy of Our Lady of Peace, and Carondelete High School. Additionally, Sr. Kelly is a member of the College of St. Catherine Board of Trustees, and of the External Review Committee of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Sr. Kathleen earned her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, and her M.A. and B.A. from Mount St. Mary’s College.


Fr. Thomas Kopfensteiner, Senior Vice President of Mission, Catholic Health Initiatives

Fr. Kopfensteiner was most recently Associate Professor of Moral Theology and Chair of the Department of Theology at Fordham University, Bronx, New York. He has written extensively in the area of moral theology and healthcare ethics.

Fr. Kopfensteiner has served as a board member and ethical consultant for several healthcare organizations. In addition, he is a member of the Editorial Advisory Panel of Health Progress; member and Chair of the Theology and Ethics Resource Group for the Catholic Health Association; and member of the Board of Directors of CHRISTUS Health Care System, Dallas, Texas.

Fr. Kopfensteiner holds a doctorate in sacred theology with a specialization in moral theology from Gregorian University in Rome.

Dr. James Kyle, Dean, of the School of Public Health, Loma Linda University

Dr. Kyle has held numerous positions at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, Genesis Healthcare Strategies, and Schaller Anderson. In addition, Dr. Kyle has served as pastor for churches in California and New York.

Dr. Kyle served in the U.S. Army as Primary Care Physician, where he excelled to the rank of Captain and received numerous commendations and medals. He has served on boards for Oakwood College, Huntsville, Ala.; Catholic Healthcare West, San Francisco, Calif.; Shields for Families, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Heritage Missions, Riverside, Calif.

Dr. Kyle received his B.A. in Religion from Loma Linda University; M. Div. From Andrews Theological Seminary'; completed the pre-med program at California State University, Los Angeles and Dominguez Hills; and received his M.D. from UCLA.


Sr. Eileen McNerney, CSJ, Executive Director, Taller San Jose

Sr. Eileen is the founding director of Taller San Jose (St. Joseph's Workshop), an educational and job-training program for out-of-school youth in Santa Ana, Calif. Since opening in 1995, the program has helped over 2000 young people to clean up their lives and move onto responsible adulthood.

Sr. Eileen has been a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange since 1957. Between 1991-1996, she served on the Executive Team for the congregation. She was a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, and currently serves on the Youth Council of Santa Ana's Workforce Investment Board.

She has a Master’s degree in educational administration from Claremont Graduate School and an MS in counseling/psychology from California State University Fullerton. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.


Sr. Mary Bernadette McNulty, CSJ, Assistant General Superior of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orang e

Sr. Mary Bernadette has served as her Congregation’s Treasurer since 1981 and as a member of the General Council since 1996. Prior to assuming these positions, she spent nearly 20 years as a teacher and administrator in various schools in California staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Sr. Mary Bernadette is a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph Hospital in Orange and Taller San Jose; Treasurer of the Partners for the Common Good Loan Fund; and a member of the Finance Committees of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious.

Sr. Mary Bernadette holds a Master of Arts degree in Administration from Loyola Marymount University and has pursued graduate studies in finance at California State University, Fullerton, and the University of Notre Dame.


Deborah A. Proctor, President and CEO, St. Joseph Health System

Deborah A. Proctor is the President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Joseph Health System. She assumed this position in December of 2004.

Prior to joining SJHS, Ms. Proctor was the Chief Administrative Officer of Ascension Health. She also served as Vice President, Business Development, Western Region, for the Hay Group Inc.

Ms. Procter’s teaching experience includes serving as an Associate Professor at the University of Phoenix, Los Angeles, Calif., and as Associate Professor at the University of California, Irvine. Ms. Proctor is a current member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of California, Los Angeles and her master’s degree in nursing from California State University, Los Angeles.

Paula L.Woods, Principal, Woods/Liddell Group

Ms. Woods is co-founder and key executive of Woods/Liddell Group, which specializes in corporate strategy and development, business line development, marketing services and governance systems development.

Prior to her work at Woods/Liddell Group, Ms. Woods was a Vice President at National Medical Enterprises Inc. in Santa Monica, Calif., and a Senior Planning Analyst at Hyatt Medical Enterprises Inc. in Encino, Calif. She has also worked with Ernst & Whinney and the American Hospital Association/Blue Cross Association.

She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Catholic Health Partners, and has held leadership positions for the National Center for Non-Profit Boards and the Watts Health System.

Ms. Woods received her Masters in Public Health from UCLA.
