The Justice value of St. Joseph Health System calls us to advocate for systems and structures that are attuned to the needs of the vulnerable and disadvantaged and that provide a sense of community among all persons. St. Joseph Health System believes one of the ways it can best improve the health of people living within its communities is to be an advocate for them. Because of this, St. Joseph Health System views its advocacy efforts as being key components in achieving the St. Joseph Health System mission.
For the past few years, children's issues have been the system-wide advocacy priority. The goals of this advocacy effort included:
- Providing health care access to all children.
- Insuring that no child goes hungry.
- Protecting children from poverty and neglect.
Recent St. Joseph Health System advocacy efforts have included influencing legislation to provide relief from existing seismic compliance legislation in California and to address the critical shortage of nursing professionals.
