    Biography

Dr. Smith grew up in Oregon, and has a bachelor's degree from Oregon State University in secondary science education. He worked for 15 years in environmental and industrial chemistry prior to attending medical school at Oregon Health Sciences University. Although he never applied his bachelor's degree to teaching in the schools, he still enjoys the process of educating his patients on their medical conditions, and appropriate treatments options so they can be knowledgeable participants in their own health care. He chose family medicine because of its focus on people of all ages, and enjoys being able to see patients from multiple generations within a family.

When he's not caring for patients, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two grown children. He also enjoys outdoor activities (hiking, fishing, gardening, bicycling, snowboarding), and is excited to be living in an area with so many options for outdoor activities.

Dr. Smith is not only an excellent doctor but he is a great friend to me

Dr. Smith is one of the best doctors I've had. As a nurse I've come in contact with many doctors. He not only respects my opinion and doesn't make me feel silly for my little complaints I have with my health. I feel comfortable as a female with a male doctor. Not only have I already recommended him but will continue too.

I still find it unusual that an annual check-up does not involve more than just listening to heart and lungs and reviewing history. what happened to the swallow test for enlarged thyroid, checking abdomen, liver size, reflexes, looking in eyes, ears, etc? Granted, I am being followed by a cardiologist but I honestly didn't feel that Dr Smith gave me a "physical". He is a kind man and takes time to listen...valuable and necessary qualities in a physician. I felt emotionally supported as I talked about my husband's terminal illness and I appreciated that.
