Carla Wells, MD, is a board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist with more than 20 years experience in high-risk obstetrics and advanced laparoscopic surgery. She has a particular interest in infertility, high-risk obstetrics, and minimally invasive surgery, including robotic-assisted procedures.
Dr. Wells graduated from the University of California, Irvine, where she received degrees in both Biology (Cum Laude) and Chemistry (National Honorary Chemistry Society). She earned her M.D. at St. Louis University, where she graduated Cum Laude and was elected into the Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society. She also received a scholarship achievement citation from the American Medical Women’s Association.
While doing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the prestigious Barnes Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Wells was awarded Outstanding Resident in Gynecologic Endoscopy by the American Association of Gynecologic Endoscopists. She also received the Wyeth-Ayerst Award.
In addition to performing research in infertility, Dr. Wells co-authored a chapter on obstetrics and gynecology for the Washington Manual of Surgery.
Dr. Wells is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). She is presently on staff at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange and Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach and Irvine. She was previously chairman of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of St. Joseph Hospital.
Dr. Wells is active in Martial Arts and has earned her third-degree black belt in Aikido. She enjoys spending time with family, friends, and pets.
