The Otolaryngology (ENT) and Head and Neck Surgery Department at Mission
Hospital has won a “High-Performing” rating, according to the
latest ratings from U.S. News and World Report (USNWR). This makes Mission Hospital the
highest-rated private ENT hospital of the five hospitals within twenty-five
miles, and the fourth-highest rated private ENT hospital of the thirty
hospitals within 50 miles, of its campuses in Mission Viejo and Laguna
Beach. The overall rankings designate Mission Hospital as the fifteenth-highest
regionally ranked hospital of the 131 hospitals listed by USNWR in the
Los Angeles metro area.
The high rating comes as a welcomed appraisal for
James Bredenkamp, MD, a surgical otolaryngologist at
Mission Hospital and
Head and Neck Associates of Orange County. “We’re pleased to be recognized by U.S. News and World Report.
We care deeply about our patients, and are dedicated to providing each
of them with the best care possible,” Dr. James Bredenkamp says.
“Knowing that our work provides healing that restores a person’s
quality of life is reward enough, but being recognized for those efforts
The U.S News and World report evaluates up to 5,000 hospitals nationwide,
across criteria that includes everything from patient services to survival
rates. The hospital scored a perfect 8 out of 8 in the area of patient
services. In a ranking system that goes from 1 to 10 in measuring expectations
of patient survival, Mission Hospital was recognized for their efforts,
scoring a perfect 10, with patient survival rates being much higher than average.
“Our patients are the heart of what we do, and our physicians, nurses,
and staff work tirelessly to ensure they not only get the best inpatient
and outpatient treatment, but the best aftercare as well,” says
Dr. Bredenkamp. “And, with the medical landscape constantly evolving,
we are presented with new challenges every day. For example, in the otolaryngology
field, thyroid cancer is an area in which we are seeing a significant
rise in the number of patients. The Otolaryngology and Head and Neck physicians
at Mission Hospital recognize this change and we use our years’
of experience in the field to grow and change with it. Our team of ten
surgeons is the largest in the region. And we are able to collaborate
with expert colleagues in the Neuroscience and Spine Institute on many
complex cases. So we’re equipped to keep pushing forward, always
advancing our knowledge and providing ever better care,” he adds.
With more than 90,000 patients admitted daily into hospitals nationwide,
the USNWR ratings system provides valuable guidance. It helps patients
and their families to not only identify who the best specialists and service
providers are in their area, but also, the level of patient centered care
they can expect to receive. Dr. Bredenkamp says, “For our patients,
this type of recognition is also wonderful as it reaffirms the faith they
place in our experts. People know that at Mission Hospital they are receiving
the highest-quality of care, not just in otolaryngology, but in every
department and every aspect of care.”
