Redwood Memorial Hospital celebrates 60 years of service Mar 12, 2017 Contributor: times-standard Redwood Memorial Hospital will celebrate its 60th anniversary this year and invites the public to a free event at the hospital in Fortuna with special emphasis on those born at the hospital in 1957 — the year the hospital was first established. The hospital initially opened its doors under the sponsorship of the Sisters of St. Joseph as a 27-bed hospital serving the Eel River Valley. Laurie Watson Stone, vice president of Redwood Memorial Hospital operations and patient experience, said in a statement the hospital staff was excited to share the special occasion with the community, especially the people of Fortuna who have supported the hospital for many years. “We’re grateful to be able to provide the Eel River Valley with high quality health care close to home,” Watson-Stone said. According to a release by Redwood Memorial Hospital, support from the people of Fortuna has allowed for expansion of its services and the ability for the hospital to purchase equipment to meet the community’s growing and changing healthcare needs. Fortuna Mayor Sue Long said the community was fortunate to have a local hospital within the area. Read more.
