St. Joseph Hoag Health hospitals – Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian,
Mission Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, Orange and St. Jude Medical Center
– have been ranked amongU.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” in the Los Angeles and Orange County
area as well as the state of California, according to the publication’s
St. Joseph Hoag Health hospitals were recognized as high performing in
eight specialties, nationally ranked in four specialties, and were noted
as high performing for treatments and procedures for nine types of conditions.
Hoag was ranked third-best hospital in the Los Angeles metro area and eighth-best
in California. The only Orange County hospital ranked in the top 10 for
California, Hoag was ranked nationally in four specialties: orthopedics
(No. 25), gastroenterology & GI Surgery (No. 27), pulmonology (No.
46) and geriatrics (No. 47), and was recognized as high performing in
neurology & neurosurgery, nephrology and urology. And high performing
in all nine types of care, including abdominal aortic aneurysm repair,
aortic valve surgery, colon cancer surgery, COPD, heart bypass surgery,
heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery.
Mission Hospital ranked 16th in the Los Angeles and Orange County area, and 28th in the
state, listed for excelling in, pulmonology, and four treatment and procedures:
COPD, colon cancer surgery, heart failure and knee replacement.
St. Joseph Hospital ranked ninth in the Los Angeles and Orange County area and 18th in the
state, and was honored as high performing in two specialties: nephrology
and orthopedics; and high performance in treatment and procedures for
seven conditions, including Abdominal including abdominal aortic aneurysm
repair, aortic valve surgery, colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery,
heart failure, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery.
St. Jude Medical Center was ranked ninth in the LA and Orange County region and 18th in California,
and was rated as high performing in four specialties: diabetes & endocrinology,
gastroenterology & GI Surgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and high
performance in treatment and procedures for five conditions, including
colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure and knee replacement.
Now in its 28th year, the
U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings help guide patients to hospitals that deliver outstanding care
across 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. The Best Hospitals methodologies
include objective measures such as patient survival, the number of times
a given procedure is performed, infection rates, adequacy of nurse staffing and more.
For 2017-18, 53 of California’s estimated 420 hospitals were ranked
in at least one specialty.
