  • Biography


    Dr. Tran grew up in San Jose, California. He completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA and was involved in the Student Honors Research Program. After obtaining his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, he finished residency in internal medicine at St. Mary-UCLA Medical Center. He worked as a hospitalist and then in outpatient medicine for almost five years at Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in northern California and in Orange County. Dr. Tran then decided to pursue additional specialty training and completed an Endocrinology, Diabetes, Metabolism & Molecular Medicine fellowship.

    His research experience in diabetes has culminated in several publications in the journal Diabetes Care. Academically, he holds the title of Assistant Clinical Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and continues to teach and give lectures to internal medicine residents.

    Furthermore, he has been honored by the Consumers' Research Council of America with a listing as one of "America's Top Physicians" for 2007 and 2009-2016 (www.consumersresearchcncl.org). In 2008, he was honored with a "Patients' Choice" recognition (Out of the nation's 720,000 active physicians, less than 5% were accorded this honor by their patients in 2008 and various components were rated such as bedside manner, doctor-patient face time, degree of follow-up, courtesy of office staff, and overall opinions). Dr. Tran is fluent in Vietnamese and medical Spanish.

    In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and 2 dogs. His other pastime activities include reading (history topics), watching movies, swimming, snowboarding/skiing, whitewater rafting, shooting guns, hiking, and scuba diving. He is a PADI Certified Rescue Diver which emphasizes emergency response and diver rescue.
